World Anatomy Day: Bits and Bobs – The Anatomy of Sex 2026

HDBR was happy to contribute to World Anatomy Day: Bits and Bobs – The Anatomy of Sex 2026. Aragorn delivered a stand entitled X and Y – Sex and Why? on the 15/10/26 at the Great North Museum: Hancock. The event was a great success, with ~160 member of the public coming to an evening dedicated to learning about anatomy and demystifying questions about sex, anatomy, and how they interact with society. Aragorn spoke about how sexual characteristics develop during embryonic development in humans, typical and atypical development, how simple ideas about biology and sex get more complicated when we start to look more deeply and how these characteristics develop. This involved talking about the difference between the X and Y chromosome and the other chromosomes, how they are inherited between generations, how the presence of X and Y chromosomes affect sexual development, and the hormones downstream of the genetics that cause anatomy to go down different paths.

"It was such a fun evening engaging with different people, asking what they knew about sex development, and telling them about how different anatomies arise and the diversity that exists within human bodies”.
